It has been an eventful pre-season for the Dallas Cowboys. While there is a lot going on involved with suspensions and investigations, I am going to get us focused on a positive. That positive I am referring to is our athletic safety, Byron Jones. The Talkin' Cowboys Podcast posted a poll on twitter, for Who is the Training camp MVP so far? Jones won the poll from fans at 37%, edging out Anthony Hitchens, who was at 25%. He has had a solid camp this Summer and is coming off a strong Sophomore season. In his Rookie year in 2015, he was a runner-up for defensive rookie of the year. I think he will improve his numbers from last season and force a lot more turnovers.
Byron has been taking his off-season training to a different level this Summer. He has been practicing with the Texas Ranger's farm club, the Frisco RoughRiders . One day before training camp started, he was shagging fly balls during their batting practice. He was doing this in hopes of improving his hand-eye coordination, which he is hoping will translate to more interceptions this season. Jones prides himself with his ability and was quoted saying this; "I wasn't getting any interceptions," Jones said. "That was the important part. That's our emphasis. I've got to hop on board or be left behind."- via ESPN.

He lead the team in pass deflections last season and finished second in tackles. His versatility has made him very valuable to this defense. They moved him into many different spots his first two years and I don't know that it will stop. He loves a challenge and loves guarding the biggest threat. He has played corner, nickel corner, and both safety spots in this secondary. If you followed closely last season, you could find him all over the field. Pro Football Focus , gave him an above average 83.6 rating for his 2016 season. Here were some of his numbers from last year;
- Tackles-88
- Pass deflections-10
- Interceptions-1
- Forced Fumbles-1
