WHY DEZ WILL BE DOMINANT IN 2017

January 15th, 2017 in Arlington, Texas; he gave it his all and he was the force that almost lead his team to a playoff comeback. He ended his day with nine catches, 132 yards and two touchdowns. It was a painful loss for Dez and his teammates. As I sat on my recliner with the feeling of depression, there was a silver lining to that playoff loss. Dez Bryant was back in his dominating form and had an off-season coming to get healthier. For the rest of the NFL, that could be a scary thing!

This is by far the healthiest he has been in over three years. After his stellar 2014 season, Dez has dealt with a few injuries. He missed half of the 2015 season and was playing with multiple back-ups, due to the Tony Romo collarbone injury. In 2016 he missed four games, but after coming back, he seemed to get better every week . His rapport with rookie quarterback Dak Prescott, was something that got better as the season went on. The one stat from last season that stood out to me the most was his yards per catch. Bryant averaged a career best 15.9 yards per catch! He seemed to prefer getting the deep ball from #4 last season, like the one below from last year at the Minnesota Vikings.

56 yard catch week 13 @ Minnesota

This was one of the more defensive games Dallas had in their 2016 season. Minnesota had challenged them with their strong defense, but this play had me jumping off the couch! #88 almost hopped into the end zone after the catch, but was tackled shortly before. It lead to an Ezekiel Elliott touchdown run. He had many great moments in 2016, but I think 2017 is going to be his comeback year, a statement to all of those who have said he has taken a step back; a reward to himself, for coming back from his injuries the last couple years and working hard to get healthy again. His leadership and experience will be his greatest asset to his teammates in 2017. Here are my statistical projections for Dez in 2017.

  • 16 Games Played
  • 96 receptions
  • 1,332 yards receiving
  • 13.9 yards per reception
  • 15 touchdowns
Dez Bryant has had a fantastic training camp so far and looks set to have a memorable season. Personally, I am over Summer, bring on fall. Were almost a month away from the home opener against the rival New York Giants. Let's hope Dez starts the season off with a bang on September 10th.
